Terms of Use

Welcome to MacroChef. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the MacroChef mobile application, the website at macro-chef.app, and any related services (together, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Codzilla Sàrl. Please read these Terms carefully — by using the Service, you agree to them.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By creating an account, downloading the app, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read these Terms, you accept them, and you commit to comply with them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You also accept our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which describe how we handle your personal data and which cookies the marketing website uses.

3. The Service
MacroChef is a meal-prep planning and macronutrient calculation tool. The Service helps you set personal nutrition targets (protein, carbohydrates, fat, total calories), assemble meal compositions from a selection of ingredients, and obtain estimated quantities to cook.
The Service is provided as a digital tool only. It does not provide medical, dietetic, or therapeutic advice. See section 9.
4. Eligibility
The Service is intended for users aged 16 or older. By using MacroChef, you confirm that you meet this minimum age. If we learn that a user is under 16, we will close the account and delete their data.
If you have or have had an eating disorder, are pregnant, breastfeeding, recovering from illness, or under medical supervision, please consult a qualified healthcare professional before using calorie- and macro-tracking tools.
5. Your account
To access certain features (saved meal compositions, subscriptions), you must create an account. You are responsible for:
- Providing accurate and current information at sign-up;
- Keeping your credentials secure and not sharing them with third parties;
- All activity that occurs under your account.
One person, one account. You may not transfer your account to another person.
6. Subscriptions, billing & refunds
MacroChef is offered with a free tier (with usage limits) and paid plans:
- Pro — monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription;
- Lifetime — one-time purchase reserved for early adopters, granting Pro features for as long as the Service is offered.
How payments work
All purchases happen through Apple's App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), via in-app purchase. We use RevenueCat as a subscription management layer. Your payment is charged by Apple or Google; we do not receive your card details.
Auto-renewal (Pro subscriptions)
Pro subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel renewals at any time:
- iOS: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → MacroChef
- Android: Google Play app → Profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions
Refunds
Because purchases are processed by Apple or Google, refund requests must be made directly to them under their respective policies:
We may, at our discretion, assist with the request, but the final decision rests with the relevant store.
Price changes
We may adjust subscription prices for new billing periods. Existing subscriptions are charged at the price in effect at the time of subscription until you cancel or the period ends. Material price changes are announced in-app and require your renewed consent before applying.
7. Your meal compositions
The Service lets you save personal selections of ingredients ("meal compositions") to reuse in your prep planning. These selections are your personal data, not creative works: combining standard ingredients does not, by itself, constitute a copyrightable recipe under Swiss or international intellectual property law. We make no proprietary claim over them.
By saving a meal composition in MacroChef, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license limited to operating the Service for you — that is, to store, transmit, and display the composition on your devices. This license terminates automatically when you delete the composition or your account.
We do not use your meal compositions for marketing, training, or any commercial purpose without your explicit prior consent.
8. Acceptable use
When using MacroChef, you agree not to:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive source code from the app, except to the extent permitted by mandatory law;
- Resell, redistribute, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service or any part of it;
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access or extract data from the Service;
- Bypass authentication, rate limits, paywalls, or other security measures;
- Upload content that is unlawful, infringing, hateful, defamatory, or otherwise harmful;
- Use the Service to provide nutrition or medical advice to third parties as if you were a qualified professional, unless you actually are one and clearly disclose that to your audience.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
9. Health & nutrition disclaimer
MacroChef is an informational and planning tool. It is not a medical device, not a dietician, and not a substitute for professional advice. All macro targets, calorie estimates, and quantity calculations are approximations based on standard reference data and the inputs you provide. They may not be accurate for your individual body, condition, or goals.
You should consult a qualified healthcare professional — physician, registered dietician, or certified nutritionist — before starting any new diet, calorie restriction, weight-loss plan, or muscle-gain protocol, especially if you:
- Have or have had an eating disorder (anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, etc.);
- Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding;
- Have a chronic condition (diabetes, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, thyroid disorder, etc.);
- Take medication that interacts with diet or weight;
- Are recovering from surgery or illness;
- Are an athlete with specific performance requirements.
If you are currently struggling with disordered eating, calorie- and macro-tracking apps may worsen the condition. We strongly recommend that you do not use MacroChef in this situation, and that you reach out to a specialist or a local helpline. Helpful starting points: Alliance for Eating Disorders (international directory) or your country's national health service.
You are solely responsible for any decisions you make based on information from the Service. By using MacroChef, you acknowledge these limitations and accept that we are not liable for any health outcome related to your use.
10. Intellectual property
The MacroChef app, website, brand, logo, "Cook smart. Zero math." tagline, design, and underlying code are owned by Codzilla Sàrl and protected under Swiss and international intellectual property law. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the Service for its intended purpose. No other rights are granted.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of any part of the Service without our prior written consent, except where such acts are permitted under mandatory law.
11. Privacy
Your personal data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy, with cookies and tracking on the marketing website detailed in our Cookie Policy. By using the Service, you also agree to those policies.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. Account deletion is performed from within the app (Profile → Settings → Delete account) and takes effect immediately. Your personal data is removed from our systems without grace period; aggregated, anonymized statistics may be retained.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service with reasonable notice if you breach these Terms, or without notice in case of severe breach (security threats, illegal activity, repeated violations of section 8). Active paid subscriptions continue to be governed by the cancellation rules in section 6.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including section 7, section 9, section 10, section 13, section 14, and section 17 — survive after the end of your relationship with the Service.
13. Warranties & limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranty, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement, except to the extent that such warranties cannot be excluded under mandatory law.
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Codzilla Sàrl, its directors, employees, and partners are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profits, business opportunities, or health outcomes;
- Our total cumulative liability for any claim relating to the Service is capped at the amount you paid us through Apple or Google for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or CHF 50, whichever is greater;
- If you have not paid for the Service, our total liability is limited to CHF 50.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under Swiss law (notably gross negligence and intentional misconduct).
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Codzilla Sàrl, its directors and employees, from and against any claim, damage, loss, or cost (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of: (a) your breach of these Terms; (b) your violation of any applicable law; or (c) your infringement of any third-party right.
15. Apple App Store additional terms
If you use the iOS version of MacroChef, the following terms apply between you and Apple Inc., not Codzilla Sàrl. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you:
- The license granted to you for the iOS app is limited to a non-transferable license to use it on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, in accordance with the Usage Rules of the Apple Media Services Terms;
- Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide maintenance or support for the iOS app;
- Apple is not responsible for product warranties — if the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Apple is not responsible for any other claims;
- Apple is not responsible for addressing claims relating to the app or your use of it (product liability, legal compliance, consumer protection, intellectual property);
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to U.S. government embargo and are not on any U.S. restricted list.
For the Android version, the Service is also governed by the Google Play Terms of Service.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. For material changes (changes that significantly affect your rights or obligations — for example new categories of paid features, changes to the medical disclaimer, or changes to liability limits), we will notify you in-app at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Service and delete your account before the effective date.
Non-material updates (typo fixes, link corrections, clarifications) take effect when posted; the "Last updated" date is updated accordingly.
17. Governing law & jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the substantive laws of Switzerland, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules and to the exclusion of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).
Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, subject to mandatory consumer protection rules that may grant you the right to bring proceedings before the courts of your place of residence.
